The Hawaiian people have a love for the land and its ohana (family). The island of Kauai is the oldest island in the chain and is the 1st major island that emerged from the Pacific Ocean 6 million years ago. The Hawaiian Islands have been formed above a 40 million year old volcano on the pacific plate while it is still shifting towards the northwest still forming islands in the Pacific Ocean today.
The first Polynesians to step foot on these virgin Hawaiian Islands were adventurous, seafaring people with high navigational skills. While sailing in their double hulled canoes they would use the stars, sun, wave patterns and clouds to lead them to these isolated lands, other things that they would use were the bird’s flight patterns to lead them to these beautiful places.
The scientists believe that the ancient Polynesian people have migrated from Southeast Asia and were considered indigenous people of the pacific. So come take this journey with us and take a step back in time to understand the true meaning of HAWAII!
